Personal Day 6: care
A day for home and for whoever is close to you. What matters most today is close at hand, not far afield. Personal Day 6 is about care: it strengthens the ties between you and the people you love.
A Personal Day is worked out from your date of birth and today's date, and it runs in a cycle from 1 to 9. Below: what to spend such a day on, what to avoid, and how it shows in work, relationships and travel.
What kind of day it is
Today is for showing that you care: for someone close, for your home, for yourself. Do the thing that has waited longest to be done.
A day of responsibility and warmth. What you give today to those you love, and to your own home, comes back as peace.
What to do on a Personal Day 6
- Give the evening to home or someone dear
- Keep a promise you have made
- Ring someone you think of often
- Make your home comfortable
- Do your share without being reminded
- Cook a proper meal
What to avoid
- Doing other people's jobs for them
- Giving advice nobody asked for
- Making sacrifices to be thanked
- Checking up on people you love
- Making up for absence with a gift
- Leaving yourself out
Morning, evening and best hours
This morning, ask someone what they need from you today, or ask yourself what you need.
This evening, cook something that takes its time.
The best hours of a Personal Day 6 are 17:00–19:00. That is the time to give to the main thing of the day.
Work
People come first today. Give a hand to someone who is struggling and listen to someone who is unhappy, and leave the doing and the deciding to them. Anything that calls for care goes well: serving, teaching, nursing, making a place comfortable. Reliability is your strongest card today.
If duty and home pull in different directions today, decide early which tasks truly cannot wait, do them and stop on time. Staying late costs more than you think: your own life is waiting too. If your work is with people, be ready for complaints. Listen, but do not take their burdens on yourself.
Relationships
For relationships, this is the most important day of the cycle. Closeness is built on care today: a meal, a warm room, your full attention. If you share your life with someone, it is a good time to talk about home and the future. Whatever you do for someone you love today, take your time over it.
Care slips easily into smothering today. Ask whether your help is wanted before you give it. People like to be trusted to run their own lives. It is a good day for a shared meal and for making peace with someone, in the family or outside it.
Travel
The best destination today is somewhere you are loved: an old friend's door, a relative's, a place you call home. The journey to people close to you is shorter than it looks. If several of you are travelling, leave time for packing and for stops: arriving in peace matters more than arriving fast.
Home is better than the road today. Put long trips off if you can. Short ones go well when they are for somebody: taking someone to an appointment, meeting a train, helping with the shopping. If you are driving, you are responsible for your passengers, so drive more gently than usual.
How to tell that today is your Personal Day 6
A Personal Day takes three steps. First, the Personal Year: add your birth month, your birth day and the current year, reducing each to a single digit, then reduce the total to a single digit.
Next, the Personal Month: add the number of the current month to the Personal Year and reduce again. Finally, the Personal Day: add today's calendar date to the Personal Month and reduce to a single digit.
Example: Personal Month 5 and the 12th give 17, and 1 + 7 = 8. That is a Personal Day 8. The next day is a 9, then a 1 again.
Questions
How often does a Personal Day 6 come round?
Personal Days run in a cycle from 1 to 9, so a Personal Day 6 returns about every nine days. At the turn of the month the order shifts, because the Personal Month changes.
Is the Personal Day the same for everyone?
No. It is worked out from your date of birth, so on the same calendar day different people have different Personal Days. The number shared by everyone is called the Universal Day, which is a different number.
How is a Personal Day different from a Personal Year?
A Personal Year sets the theme for twelve months, a Personal Month for one month, and a Personal Day describes the tone of a single day. The shorter the period, the more practical the advice: what to do today and what to leave.
Can I get my Personal Day every day?
Yes. A MyNum subscription sends a letter about your day in the morning, or the evening before. The first 5 days are free, with no card.
