Personal Day 8: results

A day for business and money. Firmness pays today: name your terms and see things through to the end. Personal Day 8 is about results: it pays out what effort has earned.

A Personal Day is worked out from your date of birth and today's date, and it runs in a cycle from 1 to 9. Below: what to spend such a day on, what to avoid, and how it shows in work, relationships and travel.

What kind of day it is

Your word carries more weight than usual today. Use it where an agreement is long overdue.

A day of results. Show what you have been working on, and look squarely at what it has brought you.

What to do on a Personal Day 8

  • Take charge of a stalled matter
  • Get one money matter clear
  • Put your terms in plain words
  • Decide, and say so
  • Add up last month's spending
  • Put the agreement in writing

What to avoid

  • Underselling yourself
  • Putting pressure on people
  • Spending for show
  • Working late into the night
  • Arguing on principle
  • Putting off an unpleasant reckoning

Morning, evening and best hours

Get your figures ready this morning, so that they are to hand when you need them.

Set a time to stop this evening, and keep to it.

The best hours of a Personal Day 8 are 14:00–16:00. That is the time to give to the main thing of the day.

Work

Work comes first today. It is a day for clarity about deadlines and terms: who does what, by when, and on what understanding. Say what you want as someone who expects to be taken seriously. Once you have decided, say so firmly and at once. Dithering over a settled matter reads as weakness today.

Today favours whoever takes responsibility. Take the lead where everyone is waiting for everyone else. It is a good day for going through a contract, a quote or a long-standing arrangement line by line. Check the terms yourself and note every question you want answered.

Relationships

If questions of money or of who decides come up between you and someone close today, talk about them openly and as equals. The habit of command, useful in business, does harm at home. The stronger person is the one who asks for an opinion.

If business takes over your whole day, whoever is close to you sees only the back of your head. Set aside an hour when you are present and the phone is off. A gift is no substitute for time. It is a good day for talking through a big shared matter: a purchase, a move, plans for the months ahead.

Travel

Trips with a purpose go well today. Whether you are going to ask, to compare or to sort something out in person, go. It is a good day for finding out what something big costs: a package holiday, tickets, car repairs. Ask every question you have and write the answers down: you have the nerve for it today.

It is easy to be in a hurry on the road today and irritated by anyone slow. Leave time to spare, and there will be less to be angry about. It is a good day for working out what your travel costs you: fuel, a season ticket, taxis. The figure will tell you what to change.

How to tell that today is your Personal Day 8

A Personal Day takes three steps. First, the Personal Year: add your birth month, your birth day and the current year, reducing each to a single digit, then reduce the total to a single digit.

Next, the Personal Month: add the number of the current month to the Personal Year and reduce again. Finally, the Personal Day: add today's calendar date to the Personal Month and reduce to a single digit.

Example: Personal Month 5 and the 12th give 17, and 1 + 7 = 8. That is a Personal Day 8. The next day is a 9, then a 1 again.

Questions

How often does a Personal Day 8 come round?

Personal Days run in a cycle from 1 to 9, so a Personal Day 8 returns about every nine days. At the turn of the month the order shifts, because the Personal Month changes.

Is the Personal Day the same for everyone?

No. It is worked out from your date of birth, so on the same calendar day different people have different Personal Days. The number shared by everyone is called the Universal Day, which is a different number.

How is a Personal Day different from a Personal Year?

A Personal Year sets the theme for twelve months, a Personal Month for one month, and a Personal Day describes the tone of a single day. The shorter the period, the more practical the advice: what to do today and what to leave.

Can I get my Personal Day every day?

Yes. A MyNum subscription sends a letter about your day in the morning, or the evening before. The first 5 days are free, with no card.
