Personal Day 9: completion

A day of endings. Today it is easier to let go than to hold on, and letting go makes room. Personal Day 9 is about completion: it frees you from what has had its day.

A Personal Day is worked out from your date of birth and today's date, and it runs in a cycle from 1 to 9. Below: what to spend such a day on, what to avoid, and how it shows in work, relationships and travel.

What kind of day it is

Today is good for finishing and forgiving. Anything new can wait until tomorrow.

The day draws a line. Look at what has outlived its usefulness and part with it without regret.

What to do on a Personal Day 9

  • Finish what has dragged on
  • Give away what you do not need
  • Forgive an old hurt
  • Return something borrowed
  • Say thank you and goodbye
  • Empty a shelf or a drawer

What to avoid

  • Starting something big from scratch
  • Clinging to what is over
  • Raking up old quarrels
  • Rescuing people who did not ask
  • Making promises for the future
  • Regretting what is done

Morning, evening and best hours

This morning, choose what you will finish today, and add nothing.

This evening is your best time: say goodbye and let go.

The best hours of a Personal Day 9 are 19:00–21:00. That is the time to give to the main thing of the day.

Work

Today is for finishing. Hand the job in, close the file, send off what is ready. New things start badly today; do not waste energy on them. It is a good day to hand a matter over to someone else and explain how it works.

Today you can see what has had its day: a habit, a duty, an arrangement nobody needs. Give up one of them. It is a good day for helping someone with no thought of return: showing, teaching, sharing. Whatever you explain today, explain it the way you wish it had been explained to you.

Relationships

Today is the time to forgive. An old hurt is easier to put down today than on any other day. Speak of it for the last time and lay it to rest. It is not a day for new romance; it is a day for ending a quarrel well.

Feelings run deep today, and they are a little sad. Do not be frightened by that, and do not look for someone to blame. Stay with kind company, or with good memories, and think back over what you have come through. If a quarrel or a parting still aches, today is a good day to write down what you want to keep from it.

Travel

It is a good day for the journey home. Returning, ending a trip, delivering and handing things over all come easily. It is not the best day to set out on a long journey: put the departure off until tomorrow if you can. A short trip made for a kind reason is a good one.

Today suits a visit to a place you have not seen for a long time: the old neighbourhood, a former workplace, the street you grew up in, your school. Go. The day helps you say goodbye and let go. Be generous on the road: let people pass, give way, help with a bag.

How to tell that today is your Personal Day 9

A Personal Day takes three steps. First, the Personal Year: add your birth month, your birth day and the current year, reducing each to a single digit, then reduce the total to a single digit.

Next, the Personal Month: add the number of the current month to the Personal Year and reduce again. Finally, the Personal Day: add today's calendar date to the Personal Month and reduce to a single digit.

Example: Personal Month 5 and the 12th give 17, and 1 + 7 = 8. That is a Personal Day 8. The next day is a 9, then a 1 again.

Questions

How often does a Personal Day 9 come round?

Personal Days run in a cycle from 1 to 9, so a Personal Day 9 returns about every nine days. At the turn of the month the order shifts, because the Personal Month changes.

Is the Personal Day the same for everyone?

No. It is worked out from your date of birth, so on the same calendar day different people have different Personal Days. The number shared by everyone is called the Universal Day, which is a different number.

How is a Personal Day different from a Personal Year?

A Personal Year sets the theme for twelve months, a Personal Month for one month, and a Personal Day describes the tone of a single day. The shorter the period, the more practical the advice: what to do today and what to leave.

Can I get my Personal Day every day?

Yes. A MyNum subscription sends a letter about your day in the morning, or the evening before. The first 5 days are free, with no card.
